The root of the project.
The intervention focuses on a completely dilapidated dwelling located in Campo Alegre - Porto, approaching rehabilitation as a process of continuity and updating. The project starts from the recognition of the value of the original building and its urban presence, proposing a transformation that respects its identity and its relationship with the place.
The new construction integrates with the whole through a contained volumetry and a sober architectural language, which dialogues with the existing structure without resorting to mimicry. The intervention is conceived as a new built layer, clearly legible, but discreet in its assertion, reinforcing the unity of the whole.
The reorganization of the internal spaces responds to the demands of contemporary living, valuing functionality, comfort, and the relationship with the surrounding area. The house opens to the external space in a controlled way, promoting a more serene and continuous experience between interior and garden.
More than an exercise in expansion, the proposal understands rehabilitation as an act of permanence. The essential elements of the existing construction are preserved, and a new spatial structure is introduced that prolongs its useful life. The intervention does not intend to override the past, but rather to establish a balanced relationship between memory and current use, ensuring the building's continuity over time.
